Laozi said: Doumu radiates sublime luminous essence. Within the Round Precious Moon of the Great Heaven grows the Qian Tree, its hue translucent like 琉璃 (lapis lazuli). The Jade Hare abides in immortality, refining the great medicinal elixir.

Whenever the cosmic vital rhythm of heaven and earth falls into disorder; when sun, moon and stars wander off their courses; when rain, sunshine, gloom and brightness come out of season; when wind, cold, heat and damp lose their measure; when severe drought, flood and fire arise, pestilence and ominous calamities befall; even wars, locust plagues, goblins and ghosts, sickness that harms living beings, lawsuits and wrongful vexations, all manner of misfortune — all spring from disrupted Qi.

Doumu descends with the great elixir, universally bestowing healing merit. She harmonizes the Five Elements, governs the ascent and descent of Yin and Yang Qi, dissolves stagnation and blockages, dispels darkness and banishes evil. What falls out of time returns to its proper season; what loses its balance regains its measure. She safeguards pregnancy and childbirth, cures illness and infirmity, nourishes the roots of all life, revives the Yang vital current, brings forth humans and creatures, refines and delivers ghosts and spirits, untangles countless karmic knots, replenishes the Eightfold Yang, upholds the true integrity, summons harmony and extends blessings. She silently wields the power of the divine medicine, holding the office of the Heavenly Physician. She brings forth the radiance of moons among all heavens, and is the Mother of all stars of the Big Dipper. The Dipper is her soul; water is her essence. She animates the human body, her light congealing the water of inherent nature. All waters converge into one moon; all moons share a single radiance. Sentient and insentient beings alike receive her luminous Dao-Qi, each sustained, guarded and nurtured by her. Her grace and virtue are profound beyond comprehension.

Therefore, within the human heart are seven apertures, resonating inwardly with the mind. The soul bears seven true essences, receiving its soul-substance from the Dipper Mother.

Doumu’s honored titles: The Nine-Spirit Supreme Subtle Primordial Sovereign of the White Jade Tortoise Platform, Night Radiance and Golden Essence Ancestral Mother. Also: The Primordial Sovereign Doumu of the Central Heaven Brahma Qi, the Purple Light Illuminating Benevolent Transcendent Primordial Queen, Golden True Sage Virtue Heavenly Honored One. Her transformed title: The King of Perfect Full Moonlight. Also: The Eastern Hua Compassionate Saving Sovereign, the Great Sage Heavenly Physician.

Her responsive titles are many. She presides over the Central Heaven Precious Pavilion. In primordial kalpas, she cultivated the Mysterious Numinous Wondrous Dao in the Dark Luminous True Pure Heaven, diligently serving the Original Beginning Honored One. Wisdom incense drifts in abundance; the lamp of wisdom shines bright. She made profound vows again and again: to bear holy sons, to supplement and complete creation, to govern heaven and earth. Her vow-power was firm, unchanging from start to finish.

While bathing in the Nine-Turn Flower Pool, the White Jade Tortoise Platform and Divine Xie Throne welled forth. Doumu ascended the precious throne, peacefully nurturing her divine true nature, refining essence and soul. She gathered Qi in serene emptiness, Qi penetrating the mystery within mystery. Merging with the spiritual wind, the purple void bloomed in splendor. At last she attained the Mysterious Numinous Wondrous Dao, emitting boundless subtle radiance that pierced through the Flower Pool. Nine golden lotus buds sprang forth. For seven days and seven nights in the mortal world, light within the pool blazed ever brighter. In that instant, all ascended to the Nine Splendor Heaven, transforming into nine great treasure pavilions. Within those pavilions, the nine true Brahma Qi coalesced, forming natural script:

Before it stands the Heavenly Gang, radiating secret characters. The script reads: Its sharp rays blaze forth.

These nine chapters generate divine beings, manifesting the Dao bodies of the Nine Sovereigns:

2. Purple Tenuity
3. Greedy Wolf (Tanlang)
4. Giant Gate (Jumen)
5. Prosperous Store (Lucun)
6. Literary Quiddity (Wenqu)
7. Integrity (Lianzhen)
8. Martial Quiddity (Wuqu)
9. Breaking Army (Pojun)

The Heavenly Sovereign and Purple Tenuity, the two revered stellar lords, dwell in the Sala Upper Palace at the Dipper’s mouth. Their true light shines as large as a chariot wheel. Whoever beholds them shall attain immortality, abide as true immortals, and never again enter transmigration. The residual radiance of these two stars becomes Left Assistant and Right Auxiliary, Yang Fire and Luo Hou. Their divine transformations are boundless, presiding over the primal true Qi of heaven and earth.

The Seven Yuan Star Lords orchestrate the transformations of Yin and Yang. Their merit permeates the three realms, their virtue nourishes all living things; their power of merit is inconceivable.

Those cultivating the Nine-Return Seven-Reversion Great Elixir, by holding this scripture, shall suddenly awaken to the dark pass. Luminous essence manifests before them. The thirty-nine nodes of the body naturally flourish, comprehending the Supreme Mysterious One-Three Dao. They know how to abide in the innate fullness of principle, solidifying their true body. If they further cultivate profound samadhi, eventually body and spirit shall merge marvelously, united with the Dao, ascending to the Jade Capital, wandering freely and at peace.

When this is achieved, through every kalpa and every birth, ancestors both dark and luminous shall all attain liberation, sharing this mysterious grace, saving both the living and the departed. This is profound and subtle. Surrender your heart to uphold and recite it. Rest quietly within the pivot of the stars. Inward vision leaves no leakage through the six senses; outward existence does not drag you into myriad phenomena. Serene and pure, the Dao stands before you. Bow to the true form.

Invocation Verse

Mysterious spirit flourishes, forever preserving long life. Supreme Mysterious One-Three, guard your true form. Spirits of the five viscera, each abide in peace and tranquility.

Swiftly, as decreed by the ordinance!

太上玄灵斗姆大圣元君本命延生心经

老君曰：斗姆上灵光圆大天宝月中有骞树，色莹瑠璃，玉兔长生，铸炼大药。凡天地气运休否，日月星辰错行，雨旸晦明不时，风寒暑湿不节，亢旱水火，疫疠凶灾，至如刀兵虫蝗，妖精鬼怪，疾病伤生，争讼横挠，种种不祥，悉皆乖气所致。斗姆降以大药，普垂医治之功，燮理五行，升降二炁，解滞去窒，破暗除邪，愆期者应期，失度者得度，安全胎育，治疗病疴，润益根荄，阳回气候，生成人物，炼度鬼神，散禳百结，资补八阳，辅正全真，召和延祚，潜施药力，职重天医，生诸天众月之明，为北斗众星之母，斗为之魄，水为之精，主生人身，光凝性水，众水一月，众月一光，有情无情，均禀灵光道炁，一一资其生养护卫，恩深德重，皆莫能知。是以人心，面有七窍，内应乎心，魄有七真，受魄於斗。

斗母尊号曰：九灵太妙白玉龟台夜光金精祖母元君。又曰：中天梵炁斗母元君，紫光明哲慈惠太素元后金真圣德天尊，又化号大圆满月光王，又曰东华慈救皇君天医大圣。应号不一，主治中天宝阁，祖劫在玄明真净天修行玄灵妙道，勤奉元始至尊，慧香氤氲，智灯朗曜，每发至愿，愿生圣子，补裨造化，统制乾坤，愿力坚固，终始如一。因沐浴於九曲华池中，涌出白玉龟台神獬宝座，斗母登于宝座之上，怡养神真，修炼精魄，冲然摄炁，炁入玄玄，运合灵风，紫虚蔚勃，果证玄灵妙道，放无极微妙光明，洞彻华池，化生金莲九苞，经人间七昼夜，其华池中光明愈炽愈盛，其时一时上腾九华天中，化成九所大宝楼阁，宝楼阁之中，混凝九真梵炁，自然成章，文曰

前有天罡，光敷秘字，文曰

芒角炓然。是九章生神，应现九皇道体。一曰天皇，二曰紫微，三曰贪狼，四曰巨门，五曰禄存，六曰文曲，七曰廉贞，八曰武曲，九曰破军。天皇、紫微尊帝二星居斗口娑罗上宫，真光大如车轮，得见之者，身得长生，位证真仙，永不轮转。二星分作余晖，为左辅、右弼，为擎羊、陀罗，神化无方，总领玄黄正炁。七元星君斡运阴阳造化，功沾三界，德润群生，其功德力不可思议。夫修炼九还七返大丹者，持此顿悟玄关，灵光现前，三十九节自然生荣，了证太玄三一之道，知守本来具足之理，坚固真身，更能精修大定，乃至形神俱妙，与道合真，飞升玉京，逍遥自在。至此，则劫劫生生、玄祖宗亲，皆得解脱，同受玄恩，济度存亡，此为深妙，皈心持奉，静处璇玑，内景无漏於六根，外景不沦於万有，湛然清静，道在目前，顶礼真形。

恭敬咒曰： 玄灵节荣，永保长生。 太玄三一，守其真形。 五脏神君，各得安宁。
